Weekly Quick Hits - August 28
It doesn't matter if you're in Greece or Norway, don't mess with the prophecies
Each week, I’m going to send out a list of entertainment I’ve spent time with. Stuff I’ve seen, read, played, listened to, etc. These may be things I recommend or that I just want to share. Let’s go!
Watching
Invincible
Summary: The son of Earth’s greatest superhero comes into his powers. Now he has to choose between normal life and training to save the world.
My thoughts: I finished the first season this week, and I cannot wait for the next one. I don’t think the animation isn’t as good as people claim, but the fights are believable and (pardon the pun) hard-hitting.
Where to watch: Amazon
Taskmaster Series 14
Summary: Comedians compete to please the Taskmaster by bringing gifts, completing tasks, and generally losing their minds.
My thoughts: I am behind on Taskmaster because I refuse to pay for another specialized streaming service BUT I absolutely love this show. I’ve been enjoying series 14 and recommend it for comedy and puzzle fans.
Where to watch: YouTube
The House
Summary: Three short stories center around one house, which represents something different for each inhabitant.
My thoughts: This was my third, maybe fourth time watching this anthology. The animation is stellar, and the stories are intriguing. Some might find it pretentious, but it is nicely balanced with humor.
Where to watch: Netflix
Invincible: Atom Eve
Summary: A prequel to Invincible, this episode reveals the tragic story behind the hero Atom Eve.
My thoughts: This episode is a nice little opening into one of Invincible’s main characters. Without this prequel, I wouldn’t have understood how powerful Eve is, and I can’t wait to see more from her.

Reading
No One Gets Out Alive
By Adam Neville
Summary: Stephanie is living on her own for the first time and finds a room in a dilapidated house. But the homeowner wants more than rent.
My thoughts: I finished this book shortly after publishing last week’s list, and I loved it. The final few chapters provide enough lore for the mythology lovers and wonderful catharsis for the main character’s arc.
My edition: 2016
Book of Night
By Holly Black
Summary: Shadow magic is the most prized skill in the world. Charlie Hall just wants to escape her con artist past when a new heist falls in her lap.
My thoughts: I’ve chosen this book for my monthly review, and I’m very happy with it. The story has just hit the hinge of Act One — buckle your seat belts everybody.
My edition: 2022
Listening
Norse Mythology
By Jackson Crawford and The Great Courses
Summary: Dr. Jackson Crawford presents lectures on the history of Norse mythology, covering everything from pronunciations to cultural contexts.
My thoughts: This is a great lecture series! I planned to listen before falling asleep, but it’s so interesting I stay awake. If you know all the Norse stories and want to understand the culture, this is the lecture for you.
Where to listen: Audible
Playing
Children of Morta
Summary: A rogue-like dungeon crawler, where the Bergson family is tasked with protecting their world from the rising Corruption.
My thoughts: I finished my play-through last week and am now enjoying New Game Plus for the first time. If you want a good game to relax with and explore, this is a great one to add to your collection.
