Hogwarts Legacy puts magic in your hands
My initial review of the 2023 game, about 15 hours in
I like all things Harry Potter. Let’s start there. I enjoy the relatively soft magic system, where as long as you know the words and motions, magic can do almost anything you want it to. I love the Sorting Hat. Anything with a hint of personality test is right up my alley. I love the world, the lore, the creatures, the characters, the tone, and the magic.
And all of that is present in spades in Hogwarts Legacy.
First released in February of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy is “an immersive, open-world, action role-playing-game set in the 1800s wizarding world, which puts players at the centre of their own adventure.” https://www.hogwartslegacy.com/en-us/faq
I want to write about this game because I have not been able to talk about anything else lately. I am loving every minute of the fifteen hours I’ve spent playing it so far.
When I play a video game, I want an experience that:
makes me feel powerful,
takes place in an immersive fantasy world,
gives me magical abilities.
It should be no surprise then that my favorite games are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Witcher 3, Tales of Symphonia, and now, possibly Hogwarts Legacy. Yeah, I think it’s that good. It could be one of my top 5 games, and I’ve only had it for three days.
